Slide notes:This slide explains how the four general principles are stated in the Code of Ethics of the International Medical Informatics Association. The principle of autonomy implies that all people have a fundamental right to self-determination. According to the principle of justice , all people are equal and have a right to be treated accordingly. The principle of beneficence means that all people have a duty to advance the good of others as long as the nature of that good is in keeping with ethically defensible values. The flip side of beneficence is nonmaleficence , the principle that all people have a duty to prevent harm to others insofar as they can do so without undue harm to themselves. 15
