Slide notes:School nurses are employed by school districts and private schools to help students stay healthy and thrive academically. School nurses might provide preventive care such as vaccinations, administer student medication, or provide health education to students. School nurses also provide medical care when needed for special education students and for students with complex health needs, such as those who use a ventilator to breathe. They also help care for students who have behavioral problems or chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, food allergies, asthma, and epilepsy. They provide this care while the school is in session. 10
