Slide notes:Welcome to the first of two lectures which serve as an introduction to the culture of health care and health care professionals. This is meant as the first of a multi-unit set of curriculum materials on the culture of health care covering the people who work in health care, the settings in which health care is delivered, the practices and processes of health care delivery, some of the professional values, beliefs, and ethics which drive that behavior, and how health information technologies interact with health care professionals in their work. In this first lecture well discuss whats meant by the word culture when we talk about health care and health care professionals. In a second lecture, well discuss why this is important and how we can learn more about it. 4
