Slide notes:A day hospital provides mental health treatment during the day, and the patient goes home at night. Day treatment is considered an alternative to outpatient care and is distinct from hospitalization, residential treatment services, and day care services. Treatment is tailored to adults or children. The services are provided at least one day a week in a hospital, community mental health center, or other facility. Services may include individual and group psychotherapy, other mental health treatments, and/or family education. Day-hospital care is intended to improve the patients ability to function in the community. 26
