Such calamities might include mass-casualty violence, emergency operations for homeland defense, flu outbreaks that require medications and vaccines, humanitarian assistance after natural disasters, and global health initiatives. The Military Health System is represented in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, and the International Committee of Military Medicine. 19
