Slide notes:It is well known that the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, protects the public by ensuring the safety and effectiveness of foods and drugs. The FDA also regulates medical devices, animal drugs, cosmetics, products that emit radiation, and other toxic substances. The FDA evaluates and approves new drugs and r egulates the manufacture and marketing of tobacco products. The FDA is organized into eight centers, with oversight by a Commissioner. 15
